Turkeys & Lawn Art at the Flamingo Resort

Just north of Hanoi, past the Noi Bai airport and only a short 1.5 hour motorbike ride is a hidden pocket of wealth. A huge resort chain called the Flamingo rests along the Dai Lai lake where wedding events and people go to “summer”.

The luxuriousness and uniqueness of the Flamingo Dai Lai Resort is a perfect quiet oasis that offers comfort and a peaceful retreat from the busy city of Hanoi. The grounds can be covered by mountain bike or electric shuttles which can be called on-demand from the room. There are different sections on the private paradise from the golf course, to the Art in the Forest where shipping containers with windows are placed throughout.

Visitors can wander about and check out the paintings inside. Turkeys gobble in packs and act as security guards. Just outside the resort, you’ll spot a billboard with Obama golfing and advertisements for seeing boar, turkeys, and eagles.

Large sculptures are placed all throughout the property. Massive wires wrapped into an odd shape. Doctor Seus-like trees. Eerie aliens lit up on the lawn at night. Homes that are boxy, sleek and modern like the house from Ex Machina.

Flamingo Dai Lai Resort spreads over 123 hectares and is surrounded by 500 hectares of water as well as 10,000 hectares of natural forests. Catering to beauty and high class, Flamingo Dai Lai Resort was planned and designed to meet the status of a leading luxury eco-resort complex with spectacular landscapes and impressive architecture. Flamingo Dai Lai Resort offers exceptional quality and diversified services, including Flamingo Central Resort, the high-class eco-system villas, a chain of sports clubs, entertainment, health care, service centers, and utilities.

The resort is one of the most famous in Vietnam and we would take the trip up here on the weekdays when the place was quiet. We would stay in the forest lodge area and for $30 a night we couldn’t believe the deal we were getting. The place is truly a hidden oasis.
